"China Home Textile Development Symposium" to be held in Shanghai on 23 August 2005

Speakers are international experts in the field of home textile design 
 
 
A high-level international symposium will be held in Shanghai on 23 August 2005, bringing together home textiles professionals from around the world to discuss the latest developments in home textile design and trends. Messe Frankfurt, together with co-organisers the Sub-Council of Textile Industry, CCPIT and the China Home Textile Association (CHTA) will host the event under the title "China Home Textile Development Symposium" in conjunction with Intertextile Shanghai Home Textiles 2005.

The Chinese home textiles industry is going through a period of impressive growth. Export increased by more than 30% between January and April 2005 year-on-year and imports jumped almost 7%. To stand out in this dynamic market place, cost competitiveness is no longer enough, suppliers and manufacturers need creative designs as well as good quality products.

The speakers at the symposium include the following international experts in the field of home textile design:

Mr. Fulvio Alvisi is the president of Alvisi e Alvisi in Como, an innovative design studio where research and technical experience transform ideas into home textile fabrics. Mr. Alvisi is the President of the Italian Textile Designer Association, Europe's largest professional textile designers' group that includes more than 60 studios. Fulvio Alvisi is also a member of the Council of Chamber of Commerce of Como, Artisan Association of the Province of Como, “Comocrea” the consortium of designers for the export market and “Tessile di Como”, a society co-ordinating the development and strategy of the Como Textile District.

Ms. Karen Fisher is the president of Designer Previews, the agent for more than 300 of America, Europe and Asia's most important interior design and architectural firms. Designer Previews matches its designers with clients seeking licensing savvy, image building, and jobs that range from designing single family houses and housing developments to major public works, restaurants and hotels. For her leadership in the American design community, Fisher was inducted into The Interior Design Hall of Fame in 1996. Prior to founding Designer Previews, Fisher was the design editor for Woman's Wear Daily, Cosmopolitan, Esquire and American Home. She is also the author of many books on interior design and for the past fifteen years, she has lectured on design and style at New York University.

Mr. Joseph Lembo is an internationally recognised designer whose success includes creating home and lifestyle products for such high profile global businesses as Polo Ralph Lauren and Nautica Enterprises. His accomplishments comprise developing unique perspectives across product lines, taking them from concept, sourcing and production, to successful retail results in the fields of product design, architecture and interior design. Joseph Lembo is presently an interior designer in New York as well as being a professor at the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC.

"Many Chinese home textile manufacturers at our fairs wish to upgrade their design skills," says Ms Annie Ma, Group Manager of Trade Fairs for Messe Frankfurt in Hong Kong. " The symposium will foster in-depth discussions about critical design issues. It will provide a forum where Chinese and international home textile manufacturers can meet and swap ideas on industry related topics."
